Get Your Home Ready For Fall

As we say goodbye to another summer, it’s time to get your manufactured home prepared for the cooler temperatures and falling leaves of autumn. Fall is the perfect time to perform both indoor and outdoor maintenance projects.

Having a regular upkeep routine and staying on top of home improvement projects allows your home to hold its value. It’s one of the easiest ways to retain the value of your home, since as we all know the little things start adding up and turn into big things if we don’t address them.

Let’s get started!

𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐞 & 𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫

Now is the best time to check your heat tape and water riser before the temperatures drop. This will help you prevent pipes freezing this winter and avoid costly repairs. Call the office if you need a recommendation of someone that can check them for you for a small fee.

It’s important to inspect skirting for cracks & holes so you can patch them before the temps drop. Prevent animals from making their way under your home to live & cause a lot of damage to your underbelly.

Check Outside Seals

You want to make sure the cold air stays outside this fall and winter. Now is a great time to check the seals on your doors and windows. Weather stripping can be added to any gaps that you may find. Tighter seals will also reduce the dust and allergens that get inside your home. While you’re at it check for tears in your window screens and repair any damages.

Replace Alarm Batteries

Make it a point to replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors each fall. If you’re not sure the last time you replaced your batteries, then do it soon! You can use a permanent marker to write the date on the battery to help you remember. Test your alarms once you have replaced the batteries. Remember, alarms do not last forever and should be replaced every 10 years.

Control Dirt and Mud

Fall can be a damp and muddy season. Adding a mud rug to your entryway will keep dirt and grime from being tracked inside. Make a storage space for shoes and boots near your doorway for quicker removal.

Clean Up Your Garden

Now is the time to plant bulbs for spring and transplant or divide perennials. Cover your rose bushes and move potted hostas indoors. Be sure to remove the last of the weeds and dried out annuals from your garden.

Prepare Your Furnace

As the evenings get cooler, you may need to switch on your furnace. Go ahead and reprogram your thermostat to your preferred autumn settings. If you do not already have regular inspections of your furnace, fall is a good time to have a check-up done. Make sure you also check and replace the air filter regularly.
